World Energy and Global Climate Change: A problem for all generations

I have attached the video from that show below. What do you think he meant?

His new book Entitled The First Billion is the Hardest, describes in detail the life of Mr Pickens as an oilman and investor. It should be noted with admiration that 100% of the proceeds from this will be donated to charitable organizations.

In his book Mr. Pickens describes how he has come to believe that the United States must get off of foreign oil. There are many places where you can find out about his plan for this but if I was to summarize it I would say that involves 2 main ideas.

1- Natural gas produced in the United States should not be wasted on electric power generation as it is now but instead reserved to power transport trucks and large equipment. This type of equipment is too large to be powered by existing battery and electric drive technology and suffers from the worst fuel consumption of all of our transportation systems. ( The average semi gets about 7 to 10 miles per gallon on imported diesel fuel.

2- Electric power should be generated not with natural gas, coal or oil but from wind energy. He proposes that we capitilize on the huge wind energy corridor that extends down through the midwest with large wind turbine farms.

Here is clip from one of this many videos outlining the basics of his plan.

Although I disagree with T. Boone on some of the finer points on his plan I applaud his leadership and drive to see it through. He has invested a significant amount of his own fortune into this project. I question the premise that there are sufficiently larger quantities of natural gas in this country that can be retrieved at a cost that is competive with what can imported from abroad. I understood that most of the new reserves exist in the shale fields which would need to be removed with a process that has yet to be perfected. Maybe one of our readers can comment futher on this. I would be interested to know what this process is.

I love the idea of putting America to work on manuafacturing, installation and maintenance of huge wind projects. However, are we limited to how much wind or solar power we can utilze untill we learn how to store its energy for when they are not producing? I think that there are some university and industry researchers investigating solutions to this. Does anyone know of any promising technologies being developed?

Here at MyGreenEducationandCareer we are very interested T.Boones plan and what this means for the creation of new economy green jobs.
