Wind Turbine Technician Shortage: A Green Career with a Bright Future.

In the United States today there are approximately 800 wind turbine technicians maintaining systems that were installed as of 2007. It is estimated based on the current rate of wind power installations that the nation will require an additional 800 technicians by March of 2009.


 One wind technician is needed for every 10 wind turbines, with technicians working in pairs. Wind technicians must be trained in mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, meteorology, safety, first aid, public speaking ,composites, computer science, and power transmission.They also have be able to navigate the tight spaces and great heights of the huge turbines. A wind turbine technician entering the workforce can expect to earn between $16 and $30 per hour.Training courses for certification as a wind turbine technician are being developed at several colleges throughout the United States.
