This one-of -a-kind event, to be held in the beautiful Lehigh Valley Region of Pennsylvania, deserves special mention for its significant educational component and the financial assistance  available to high school and college students and faculty to attend.

According to conference organizers, their mission is

”to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of and passion for sustainable energy technologies, economics, and public policy in students, educators, policy makers, consumers, business leaders, and entrepreneurs so that they can make the informed decisions necessary to provide for the energy needed today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs”.

The opportunity for students and educators to take part in the “Sustainable Scholars” program as part of the conference is what sets this event apart from other sustainable energy events, and should serve as a model for other states and organizations.

The Sustainable Energy Fund (SEF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the use of renewable energy, energy conservation, and education. SEF was formed pursuant to a joint settlement agreement arising from the PA Public Utility Commission’s electric utility deregulation proceedings in 1998.  The SEF launched a Sustainable Scholars Programs in 2005 with Solar Scholars™. Solar Scholars™ was a first‐in‐the nation solar education initiative promoting the adoption and integration of renewable energy concepts and technologies into the curriculum of colleges and universities. Sustainable Scholars Programs like Solar Scholars™ prepare the next generation of energy conservation leaders with the knowledge they will need to make informed decisions to promote renewable energy sources and conservation.
