Stimulus Plan:Green Job Creation Tally

In the recently approved Stimulus bill the United States government has allocated over $65 billion dollars to the creation of Green Jobs.  Here is how the dollars line up and which types of jobs it is likely to create.

$20 billion directed at “green” jobs to make wind turbines, solar panels and improve energy efficiency in schools and federal buildings.
30 percent tax credit of up to $1,500 for the purchase of highly efficient residential air conditioners, heat pumps or furnaces or to replace leaky windows and insulation.

 - The above expenditures are likely to produce jobs for Wind turbine technicians, wind energy educators, welders, assemblers, fork truck drivers, semi drivers, construction and installation workers, large crane operators, carpenters, heating and ventilation specialists, energy auditors, energy auditors certification schools, civil engineers, architects, accountants and others

  • About $300 million in rebates for those who purchased efficient appliances.
  • - Retailers, truck drivers and sales people. There are very few (if any) manufacturers producing appliances in the United States anymore so either these products will continue to be imported from countries like Chine and Vietnam or companies will start to produce them locally again. If this occurs additional jobs will be created in engineering, manufacturing, accounting and management.

  • $6 billion in loans for renewable energy projects and tax breaks or direct grants covering 30 percent of wind and solar energy investments.
  • This investment will likely produce jobs in research, engineering, manufacturing, installation, maintenance and assembly.

  • $5 billion to help low-income homeowners make energy improvements.
  • -Likely jobs from this investment will be in the areas of contracting, construction, renovation , energy auditing and education

  • $11 billion to modernize and expand America’s electric power grid.
  • - Investment in this area will yield jobs in the manufacturing of power component products and services, engineering, maintenance, electrical technicians and electricians, assembly, management and administration.

  • $2 billion for research into batteries for future electric cars.
  • - Investment in battery development will yield patents that will guarantee an export market for our battery technology as well fuel our green auto industry and improve the return on investment for wind and solar installations.

  • A total of $9.2 billion aimed at environmental projects at the Interior Department and the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • - This money will stimulate growth in research and development, construction , engineering , manufacturing, administration, education and auditing.
