South Carolina County Focuses on Green Building Education

A council associated with the Horry-Georgetown Homebuilders Association has established a speaker’s bureau to address local schools and organizations to promote green building along the Grand Strand.

The Coastal Green Council aims at educating both builders and consumers as to exactly what green building is and how it can transform new and existing homes.

Officials with the Horry-Georgetown Homebuilders Association say speakers will be made available to speak on specialized “green” areas, such as plumbing or landscaping.

“A lot of people, including builders, don’t really know what green building is, even though building green is very popular. Our purpose is to make sure that people aren’t ‘greenwashing’ the public- passing off something that isn’t truly green,” said Dr. David W. Powers, education chairman for the CGC.
