Solar Energy International Offers Online and Workshop Education

Solar Energy International (SEI) offers hands-on workshops and online courses in solar PV, wind, micro-hydro, solar hot  water and natural home building. Founded in 1991 as a non-profit educational organization, they are a 501(c)(3) equal opportunity institution and are not affiliated with any dealer, manufacturer or distributor.

SEI’s courses can be used toward North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioner (NABCEP) Certification  and also can be used as college credit towards a Certificate in Renewable Energy (CERET) for qualifying online workshops through the Madison Area Technical College.  SEI’s PV workshops are accredited through the Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISPQ), which is overseen by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC).  ISPQ provides a set of standards for evaluating different training programs.  These standards were developed as a framework for people to compare the course content and training quality of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and distributed generation technology courses.

Courses, both online and workshops, cost an average of $895.00.  SEI offers both scholarships and a work-trade program to aid students in paying for their training.   Courses are offered throughout the year and workshops are held at various locations around the country as well as Costa Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Mexico. SEI works cooperatively with grassroots and development organizations in the Americas, Africa, Micronesia and the Caribbean. SEI staff have delivered services to the Pan American Health Organizations, Non-Governmental development organizations (NGOs), foreign, national and state governments, universities and individuals seeking the benefits of renewable energy.
