NYU Identifies Executive Green Training Gap, Develops CleantechExec Program In Response

New York University identified that executives, like most worker segments, were also experiencing unstable and unpredictable employment situations.  A lack of leadership talent in the burgeoning cleantech industry also inhibits the growth of new ventures and new businesses in this sector.  Short on time and long on responsibility, the University realized that there were no formalized courses geared specifically to help executives to take a leadership role and spur entrepreneurial growth in the new green-tech economy.

In response, the Polytechnic Institute of NYU (NYU-Poly) developed the CleantechExecs program, designed to prepare executives to pursue/ transition to a comparable role in the cleantech and renewable energy economy.  The program is intended to complement relevant management experience.

The number of participants accepted into each cohort is limited in order to maximize this transformational career development and learning opportunity.  The program is designed for individuals with at least 10 years of leadership and professional and executive experience in large corporate environments and/or entrepreneurial ventures.  The program also integrates a New York City flavour to several of its specific courses.

This new program provides an intense, yet limited (since there is only so much material that can be covered in 10 days), series of courses structured into two parts: foundational sessions and applied projects.  The first cohort starts on February 18th, 2010 and ends on May 7th, 2010.   As a result of a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), this cohort is being offered tuition-free.  This being the first offering of the program, there are no graduates available to vouch for the program’s real-world relevance, however, MyGreen Education and Career believe this is the “first of its kind” short-term (versus a Green MBA, which would typically require a minimum of 18 months) educational program geared to grooming executives for this green career stream.
