New Year’s Resolution – Invest in Yourself!
Are you one of the millions of people who look forward to the beginning of January as the best motivational time of the year? Judging by the types of infomercials on television at this time of year, it is the season for making New Year’s resolutions primarily focusing on getting fitter, leaner and healthier.
For many people around the world, 2009 was a stressful time filled with lay-offs and sudden unemployment. As part of a healthier lifestyle, explore investing in your education and career in the ever expanding green marketplace! This is an excellent time to reflect on how much time and money you would be willing to devote to upgrading your skills in your current green field, or expending on a whole new stream in the rapidly expanding green jobs and green career space.
Why not take advantage of the fact that this is the most popular time of year to embrace positive changes? While you’re doing your research on what types of green jobs you would be interested in, and what would be required to enter that field (or increase your current credentials in the field), think about how much time and money you are willing and able to realistically invest. Depending upon how these factors line up for you, there may be many possible options for reaching your resolution goal(s). You may need to stay close to home and juggle current employment and family obligations, which would fit best with either in-class or online educational courses or degree programs. You may travel extensively for work, and pursuing online courses or degrees would be the most flexible option. You may want a full degree or graduate program, or you may decide to do a diploma or certificate program. You may decide to test the waters by taking a course or workshop to find out more about a certain green job or green career stream.
