New Mexico Wind Energy Education:Training for Green Jobs

Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, New Mexico is offering some exciting new training courses for people interested in green careers in the Wind energy sector. These courses will be of interest for graduating high school students and seasoned workers who want to change career paths . The high demand for wind turbines is creating a shortage of trained and qualified wind energy technicians who provide maintenance on the turbines.

 According to the school’s website the college’s North American Wind Research and Training Center offers instruction in wind turbine technology, turbine maintenance, tower safety, and wind economics. Students have thier choice of either a one or two year program.

One year program -  Applied Science Certificate in Wind Energy Technology.

Two year program - Associate of Applied Science Degree in Wind Energy Technology.

The College also plans to offer specialized courses for specific industry requirements. Programs can be designed for specific needs of wind technology firms. Training can range from three days to eight weeks depending on the complexity of the topics to be covered.

According to the College the program is sponsored by the government of  New Mexico, the Department of Energy, Homeland Security and Sandia National Laboratories.
