Kinetic Energy – Can Your Tires Power Your Home?
Maryland based New Energy Technologies Inc. has introduced its MotionPower ™ technology aimed at harnessing the kinetic energy generated from the simple movement of your tires. The company claims that it is developing a new technology aimed at capturing a portion of the valuable kinetic energy produced by the 250 million vehicles traveling the roads every day in America.
The company has been hard at work to develop a simple, cost-effective, real way of generating electricity by simply driving cars over simple energy-capturing devices. The objective is to flip the concept of powering individual hybrid cars, to embed technology into the roadways themselves to capture the friction energy that would otherwise simply dissipate as heat.
According to Meetesh Patel, the company’s President and CEO, New Energy Technology engineers “have successfully engineered and built the Company’s first prototype, and are now actively working to further optimize the efficiency of the MotionPower TM device in preparation for installations at high traffic locations such as exit ramps, toll booths, traffic intersections, rest areas, travel plazas, restaurant and bank drive-thrus, border crossings, and neighborhoods with traffic calming zones.” Another important aspect of the device is that it has been designed for ease of manufacturing, as well as durability, making it resistant to damage from vehicles, road debris or weather.
The prototype has also been designed for ease of installation, being modular to allow installers to conveniently shorten or lengthen this energy harvester device in order to customize the system based on site conditions, while maximizing power output.
