San Francisco, July 16, 2009 – Today at the Intersolar North America 2009 conference, Prism Solar Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of a unique holographic solar technology for solar-electric modules, announced receiving $1.5 million from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) through the Renewable, Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency Product Manufacturing program. The program provides New York consumers with greater access to renewable, clean energy, and energy-efficient products by assisting manufacturers to further develop or expand current manufacturing operations within the State.

Funds will go towards the purchase of manufacturing equipment for Prism Solar’s Holographic Planar Concentrator (HPC) module production line, which is slated to be in operation by the end of 2009. The manufacturing line is currently under development at Prism Solar’s newly purchased 93,000 sq. ft facility in Highland, New York.

Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D – Ulster / Dutchess), Chair of the Assembly Energy Committee commented,

Prism Solar’s efforts to create new manufacturing jobs right here in Ulster County promises to provide a much needed boost to our economy while contributing to the momentum that is transforming the region into a hub for solar innovation. These state funds will help the company hit the ground running, furthering our vision for a new green economy.

Prism Solar plans to employ 100 workers in the next couple of years, increasing to 400 in as soon as five years as the manufacturing line is scaled-up to produce approximately 60MW of HPC modules in addition to a planned 1GW holographic film line. The holographic film, composed of holograms that concentrate light onto silicon cells, represents Prism Solar’s core technology.

ABOUT Prism Solar Technologies, Inc.Prism Solar Technologies, Inc. will manufacture holographic planar concentrator PV modules (HPC) that incorporate a novel, proprietary holographic optical film technology to achieve remarkably low module manufacturing costs. Holographic films are designed to spectrally select photons from additional, cool wavelengths of light and concentrate them onto solar cells. Specific advantages of HPC include up to a 70% reduction in the use of expensive silicon and the production of 20-40% more Whs per rated Wp compared to traditional modules. The primary business focus will be to sell the films to module manufacturers, but Prism will also produce a limited number of modules for domestic markets.
