ALABAMA
The University is a beautiful campus occupying over 130 acres in a residential section of Florence, Alabama. Florence is located just north of the Tennessee River and is the largest city in a four-city area that includes Tuscumbia, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals. The entire metropolitan area has a combined population of approximately 140,000 people. The University of North Alabama, established in 1830 as LaGrange College, became in 1872 the first state-supported teachers’ college south of the Ohio River and one of the first coed colleges in the nation. The University of North Alabama has developed into a comprehensive regional university providing quality educational opportunities for students, with majors in four colleges-arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing and allied health.
