Green Conferences, Expos, Festivals and a Symposium June 28 to July 5th,2009

066_wpIn this instalment of our weekly posts relating to “greenconferences and festivals, we once again provide information on a sampling of these events from around the world.

This weekend sees the Go Green Expo event land in Atlanta Georgia, USA for the 26th through 28th of June. This event has travelled across the US and Canada so far this year, however, many local speakers and performers are added in each locale with Atlanta following this trend. The Expo has something for people of all ages, and is geared towards people wanting to make even small changes towards living a greener lifestyle. Held at the Cobb Galleria Centre, speaker sessions include: Oscar-nominated actress, eco-mom and author Mariel Hemingway, Atlanta Falcons fullback Ovie Mughelli, Atlanta eco-living expert Laura Turner Seydel, the Director of Sustainability for the City of Atlanta, Mandy Mahoney, the President of the US Green Building Council – Atlanta chapter, and Ben Taube. The Expo is a great venue for exposing the entire family to new products and perspectives on greening your day to day life. Helsinki Finland will host the 6th International Symposium on Ecosystem Behavior BIOGEOMON 2009 from June 29th through July 3rd. Geared to the green scientific, research and technical communities, the BIOGEOMON symposium focuses on bio-geochemical research at watershed, landscape and global scales. Besides the traditional themes of previous BIOGEOMON symposia, the Helsinki symposium will include bio-geochemical aspects of wetlands, bio-energy production, atmosphere – forest interactions, and trace metals. The University of Helsinki, Finnish Forest Research Institute (METLA) and the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) are the official hosts of the event.

Throughout the month of June, London England is the venue for the Love London Green Festival which is believed to be the largest annual green festival in the world. From 4th to 28th June 2009, over a hundred green events will take place across the capital, bringing communities together to share ideas and celebrate innovations. These events are intended to engage Londoners, in a fun way, in building a sustainable future for their city. Almost all (99%) of Love London Green Festival’s events are free, and many are intended to offer advice on how Londoners can to do their bit to make the city cleaner, greener and more sustainable as well as saving money.

The weekend of July 4th and 5th will see the Organic Islands Festival and Sustainability Expo be held in Victoria British Columbia, Canada, in the Glendale Gardens and Woodland on Quayle Road. The 5th Annual Organic Islands Festival and Sustainability Expo is a solar-power, near zero-waste celebration featuring eco-friendly practices, products and services presented by 150 Exhibitors in a beautiful 10 acre garden venue. Intended for individuals and family, the activities offered include tasting organic food, presenting innovative ideas, chef demos and entertainment.
