Senior Research Associate ~ Microbial Physiology, Biofuels

Requirements:

  • BS with 5-7 yrs or MS with 3-5 yrs of industrial research experience in microbiology or biochemistry. High preference for those with industrial experience.
  • Strong background in microbial physiology, bacterial genetics, preferably with clostridial species.
  • Looking for an individual who understands microorganism as a whole, not just cloning genes.
  • Experience in traditional mutagenesis (NTG, EMS) (must know the concept of traditional selection & mutation).
  • Statistical knowledge and practice (designed experiments, sampling plans, ANOVA and regression).
  • Experience with molecular biology and system biology is strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated analytical and organization skills, experience writing SOP’s, scientific reports, and writing/delivering presentations.

Duties:

  • Perform chemical mutagenesis.
  • Plate and liquid screening of the mutated strains.
  • Shake flask evaluation of the improved strains.
  • Media preparation, growth and maintenance of fresh cultures for experiments and plates.
  • Analyze data, prepare scientific reports and present internally and externally, as required.
  • Other standard microbiological activities.
  • The successful candidate will utilize a combination of genetic engineering and traditional mutagenesis approaches to generate strains designed to improve performance and robustness in the production process and, on an ongoing basis, to generate new knowledge about the biology of the producing organism.

Chemical Engineer

Requirements:

  • BS Chemical Engineering, with over 3 years of industrial experience.
  • Operate reactions systems, pressurized reactors, GC s, Swedgelock fitting.
  •  Computer skills: Word, Excel, software associated with analytical instruments.
  • Requires knowledge in gas phase analysis using a gas chromatography.

Duties:

  • Perform hands on biofuels laboratory research.
  • Prepare catalysts, load and unload catalysts and biomass to biofuels test reactor, conduct catalyst evaluation, obtain mass balance, process experimental results, and issue written report of the results on a daily basis with minimum supervision.
  • Operating, maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment / reactors. Reactor is designed to operate at high temperatures 400-600C and under less than 10 bars of pressure and require carefully following operating procedures to ensure safety.
  • Employee is expected to maintain the reactor in specific operating conditions and deliver reliable results. Employee must have the knowledge and skill required to make modifications to the reaction system to get desired experimental results.
  • Prepare catalysts, maintain and operate multiple reactors.
  • Schedule and evaluate catalysts, analyze gas, liquid and solid products and obtain full mass balance, process data and report results both orally and in writing.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate and work well with other team members.

Operations Manager

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering or technical field required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biofuel, petroleum or chemical production including quality control, process control and mechanical evaluation capability.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles related to fluid and thermal dynamics, biochemical principles related to fermentation and distillation practices employed in fuel grade ethanol production.
  • 5+ years supervisory / management experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in operation and control of manufacturing process at a supervisory level as well as an in depth knowledge of mechanical/electrical/control systems. Knowledge of manufacturing facility operations with experience in conduct of system and board operations is key in addition to experience in biofuel, petroleum or chemical process operations and process control / performance parameters.
  • Computer skills should include Word, Excel, and the ability to use the control system (training to be provided).
  • Writing skills are necessary and should include preparation of instructions and procedures as well as math skills to include simple algebra in order to determine feed rates and prepare daily reports.
  • Must be able to refer to documentation available, troubleshooting guides and be able to react to unusual situations.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the oversight and direction of the operations staff and will provide support to the Production Manager to ensure standards of safe, reliable, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the facility are met or exceeded.
  • Overseeing the activities of operations staff to ensure regulatory, HES and production performance standards are met is a key responsibility.
  • Acting as champion for the attainment and maintenance of a continuous improvement culture is also key.
  • This position must suspend activities or operations that represent risk to employees, the public or plant equipment and support the Shift Supervisor and direct emergency response action plans and takes responsibility for the deployment of emergency response resources in accordance with emergency response procedures.Working to achieve department and company goals for safety, environmental impact and production must also be a crucial goal of this position.
  • The position must be adept at monitoring employee and equipment performance, and coaching to drive continuous performance improvement and the ability to oversee plant operation and to direct activities of plant operations staff.
  • This position also requires the ability to respond to off normal and emergency conditions in a controlled and systematic manner while directing activities of others.

Grain Operations Manager

Requirements:

  • Had training with a multi-national grain company.
  • Significant experience in operations.
  • Mechanically competent.
  • 2+ years rail experience ideal.
  • College degree preferred but not required.

Duties:

  • Manage a truck and rail location.
  • Significant experience in operations, be mechanically competent, and very self motivated to get tasks at hand completed.
  • This manager will spend time working with a team of employees in loading / unloading grain, oversee maintenance and repairs, track inventory, and assist in permitting.

Grain Originator

Requirements:

  • 4 year college degree.
  • 2+ years grain origination experience (exceptional new grads considered).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem solving skills. 
  • Ideally, candidates will have a minimum of two years experience originating grain; however, exceptional new grads will be considered.  

Duties:

  • Establish and maintain quality relationships with producers and communicate on a regular basis with producers to learn their needs as well as educate them on the products and services the company offers.
  • Making phone calls is a significant part of this job, as well as getting out to farms to make personal contact.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem solving skills are required, as well as a 4-year college degree.
