26th Annual Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning

The Annual Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning is recognized internationally for the quality and integrity of its program. Each year the conference provides an exchange of current resources, research, and best practices from around the world that are relevant to the design and delivery of distance education/training.

The 26th Annual Conference to be held August 4-6, 2010 in Madison, Wisconsin. Together, we will address challenges facing practitioners and administrators and discuss effective teaching/training distance courses and programs.

Conference Objectives

Teach

  • Discuss critical success factors and innovative practices in distance education and training.
  • Examine the key components of effective applications: needs analysis, course design, teaching methods, active learning, learner support, management, policy, and evaluation.
  • Share successful approaches, strategies, and techniques.
  • Identify active teaching/learning methods for effective engagement, motivation, and performance outcomes.
  • Discuss major issues, new developments, and trends.

Learn

  • Reflect on progress made in distance education.
  • Consider future possibilities for distance education.
  • Increase knowledge about teaching/training at a distance.

Connect

  • Facilitate networking among distance educators, practitioners and administrators.
  • Share program resources via technology (e.g., print, audio, video, multimedia, and the Internet).

ABOUT WORKSHOPS

Optional three-hour workshops provide presenters an opportunity to facilitate a well-planned, interactive, and practical learning experience to develop participants’ knowledge and skills in a specific area of expertise.

Suggested workshop activities:

  • Breakout discussions
  • Hands-on work
  • Group/team projects
  • Simulations
  • Applications of models
  • Other interactive strategies

Optional workshops require pre-registration and separate fees.

ABOUT E-POSTER SESSIONS

Electronic poster sessions allow researchers and graduate students to discuss their completed research studies in a small group setting. Attendees will tour several simultaneous slide-loop presentations and interact with presenters about their studies and findings.

The following topics are suggested for the e-poster format:

  • Quantitative research
  • Qualitative research
  • Surveys
  • Meta-analyses

In discussion sessions, presenters interact in an informal small group setting. After the topic has been introduced and key points have been made, the lead presenter encourages discussion among participants and guides the interchange of ideas. Several discussions take place concurrently.

Types of discussions include:

  • Roundtable Discussions–Presenters discuss a relevant topic, project, or resource.
  • Point/Counterpoint Debates–Two presenters debate two sides of an issue.
  • *Author Discussions–Authors discuss their books and answer questions.
  • *NEW! Graduate Student Research Discussions–Graduate students discuss their research project and obtain feedback and advice from experienced professionals.
